Get your business
recommended by AI

When someone asks ChatGPT, Gemini or Google's AI who to call, the answer names a business or two. Here is how those answers get made, what you can do about it, and what we do for clients every month.

The short answer

ChatGPT has no business directory.

There is no form to fill out and no listing to buy. People search for how to register or list a business on ChatGPT, the way they would on Yelp. AI tools don't work that way. They read what the web already says about you, decide what to trust, and write an answer from it.

So the work is making sure the web says, clearly and in more than one place, who you are, what you do, where you do it, and that real customers vouch for you. Three places carry most of that weight.

  1. 01 · Your website

    Pages that answer the question

One clear page for each service, written around the questions your customers actually ask, with your areas and prices where you can share them.

  2. 02 · Google

    Being found in plain search

Google's AI Overviews only link to pages Google can already show in search. A page has to be indexed and eligible to appear with a snippet before its AI can use it as a source.

  3. 03 · Everywhere else

    What others say about you

Your Google Business Profile, your reviews, and the listings that name your business. When they match your site, you are easier to recognize and easier to recommend.

“There are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, nor other special optimizations necessary.”
Google Search Central, AI features and your website, last updated December 10, 2025. The same page says you don't need new AI text files or special markup. The basics of being findable are the work.

Why it matters now

8%
of visits clicked a regular result when Google showed an AI summary
15%
clicked one when there was no summary

Pew Research Center, July 22, 2025: browsing data from 900 U.S. adults, 68,879 Google searches, March 2025. Fewer clicks means the business named inside the answer matters more.

How we work

How the work runs, month to month

Answer engine optimization, AI search optimization, AI SEO: the industry hasn't settled on one name. The work underneath is the same, and it is not a trick or a hidden setting. Here is what it looks like with us.

  1. We ask the AI tools first

Before we change anything, we put the questions your customers ask, in their words, to ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI, and write down who gets named. That is your starting line, and you see it.

  2. We write the answers on your site

One page per real question or service, with the answer at the top in plain words. Prices, service areas and the details people ask about go where a person and a machine can both find them.

  3. We make the rest of the web agree

Your Google Business Profile and listings get checked and corrected so your name, phone, address and services match everywhere. Reviews from real customers do the rest, and we help you ask for them.

  4. We keep the doors open

AI search tools send their own crawlers to read your site, and a site can block them without knowing it. OpenAI says sites that block its search crawler “will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers.” We check that yours lets them in.

  5. We show you what happened, every month

Where AI answers named or cited you, for which questions, next to the calls and form leads that came in. AI answers shift from week to week, so we judge by repeated checks over time, never by one screenshot.

AI search is part of the monthly work, not an add‑on you pay extra for.

On Google, and cited in its AI Overview

Gold Coast Healthcare Staffing

For “travel pt salary”, the first thing Google shows is an AI Overview, and it cites the travel-pay page we built. Ahrefs ranks that page at position 1 for the search, and for “travel ot salary” too.

Questions

What business owners ask about AI search

How do I get ChatGPT to recommend my business?

Give it something clear to repeat. When ChatGPT searches the web, it builds its answer from the pages it finds and trusts. That means a site that answers the question in plain words, a Google Business Profile that matches it, and reviews from real customers. There is no sign-up and no fee to pay ChatGPT. Check that your site lets its search crawler in, then do the steady work of being the clearest answer in your area.

How do I know if AI recommends my business?

Ask it the way a customer would. Open ChatGPT, Gemini and Google in a private window, type what a customer types, like “automated gate contractor austin,” and write down who gets named. Run the same questions every few weeks, because the answers move. Our free step-by-step check takes about two minutes.

Will AI replace SEO?

No. AI answers are built on search. Google says a page has to be indexed and eligible to show in Search with a snippet before its AI Overviews can use it as a supporting link. What changes is how many people click: in a Pew Research Center study of 68,879 Google searches by 900 U.S. adults in March 2025, people clicked a regular result on 8% of visits when an AI summary appeared, against 15% when it did not. Ranking on Google still matters. Being named inside the answer matters more than it used to.

How much does answer engine optimization cost?

At Greenlight Systems it is part of the monthly work, not a separate line item. For new clients from October 16, 2026, a website build is $4,000 and the monthly work is $1,000, month to month with no contract. For the ranges other providers charge and what should be included at each level, see our breakdown of answer engine optimization pricing.

Which agency should I hire to get my business cited by ChatGPT?

Whoever you talk to, ask four things. Can they show you today which AI answers name you and which name your competitors? Will the work live on your own website, in your name? Where does every number in their pitch come from? How will you see the results each month? We hold ourselves to the same questions. When we traced 22 widely quoted AI-search statistics to their sources, 4 were invented and 6 more were garbled, which is why every number on this page names where it came from.
